We at the New Hackensack Fire Company have a lot to be thankful for. Careful, this is a long post. It’s been quite the year so far, and it’s only April.
On March 31st some of members set sail on a cruise down to the Bahamas. We got to spend some time decompressing, laughing, reminiscing and forming new memories with our fellow members, and our extended family members. We are lucky enough to have gone on this trip, but even luckier to have neighboring departments that can step up and assist with coverage on calls while we were away. (We didn’t all go, we still had manpower here). But I need to give a shout-out to the members of Hughsonville Fire Department and East Fishkill Fire District that came on our calls to make sure our residents were totally covered at all time. Without this team work, we wouldn’t have been able to celebrate our 75th with this cruise trip.
Once we returned, our focus has shifted to remembering the life and legacy of Past Commissioner, 51 year member, Roderick J MacLeod; who’s memorial services are happening this week. Again, the members of Hughsonville stepped up, and showed up in force to help us get a fresh coat of wax on our apparatus, and scrub the floors for those stopping in to pay their respects.
Finally, tonight was the first night of the services for Roderick and members of the Roosevelt Fire District came down to provide coverage, so that we could properly pay our respects.
Without all of the members from all over our county, we wouldn’t be able to accomplish everything. This is what we mean when we post about joining our membership, and gaining new family members. The fire service isn’t a solo adventure. You join, you gain extended family that is there to help in your time of need, for better or for worse.
